The GEOCON story

How we started and where we’re headed

Our story goes from building free-standing homes in the suburbs to constructing internationally recognised apartment complexes and sustainable hotels. As Managing Director, Nick Georgalis, puts it: “We are in a very important growth stage of Canberra and it’s great to be a part of it!”

Building our community

More than apartments and hotels, we are shaping the city’s skylines, strengthening town centres and developing leaders of the future.

Always looking to give something back, GEOCON is building life, communities and culture in Canberra by supporting a range of local community groups across four core areas – health, the arts, sport and education.

Building our community

Canberra Hospital Foundation

GEOCON is especially proud of our unique affiliation with the Canberra Hospital Foundation. In conjunction with our Abode Apartment Hotels, a two-bedroom family apartment has been donated at Abode Woden. The room accommodates up to four people for extended stays at no cost, providing some comfort and relief for guests who find themselves in a time of need.

Abode’s General Manager of Hotels Rien Donkin said “We understand that a family member being hospitalised for any condition is an extremely difficult time, both emotionally and financially. By providing accommodation close to the hospital we hope the burden is eased in at least a small way.”

Burgmann College

GEOCON is pleased to be associated with Burgmann College, supporting current and potential residents who are in need of financial support through the College’s Bursary and Scholarships Program. Along with fund raising activities, GEOCON will be spending time with residents in round table discussions and mentoring sessions, offering business experience to Burgmann’s future leaders.

GEOCON Managing Director Nick Georgalis said “We wanted to raise money to support bursaries and scholarships for some of the most talented young people in Australia through the ANU.”

“By doing this we’re encouraging the next round of great minds entering the workforce. Succession planning has been part of our company’s success and working with Burgmann College allows us to engage early with great minds and future leaders”.

Aspen Island Theatre Co.

Canberra’s newest suburbs are the setting for a supernatural new play, The Slip Lane, by Canberra’s contemporary theatre company, Aspen Island Theatre Company. GEOCON is delighted to be involved with the local theatre scene by supporting this original play, which is a funny relationship drama and political satire that offers a critique of modern Australia looked at through the prism of Gungahlin.

GEOCON General Manager of Development Peter Micalos said “Hearing that the play was set in Gungahlin and focused on communities, we saw a natural fit with our goals of building local town centres that provide public spaces for residents to socialise – with family, friends and each other.”

“We were happy to invest in the production so it could reach a wider audience and we encourage everyone in Canberra to see the play at the end of July.”

CBR2RIO 2016 Olympic Team Gala Dinner, Gold Sponsor

Fundraising for the Australia Olympic Team heading to Rio is in full swing, and with an ACT specific target of $250,000 GEOCON is excited to be the Gold sponsor of the ACT Team Appeal Committee’s primary initiative – the CBR2RIO Gala Dinner.

All funds raised go directly to prepare and send the 2016 Australian Olympic Team and includes the cost of travel, accommodation, outfitting, and sports science and medical support including physiotherapy, massage therapy, nutrition, physiology and psychology.

GEOCON General Manager of Construction Damon said “We encourage other Canberra businesses to get behind these young people reaching their goals and fulfilling their potential as role models for future generations of Canberrans.”
