Geocon People: Senior Sales Executive Scott Gardiner
01 March 2018
When did you join Geocon?
I joined Geocon in September 2017. Geocon had the foresight to bring sales in-house, and it was a great opportunity.
What are some of the things you most like about working for Geocon?
I like that we work directly for the largest developer in Canberra, and unlike a lot of typical real estate agencies, I can focus less on admin and more on doing what I do best – selling apartments.
What is your role and what does it involve?
I am a Senior Sales Executive, I sell the apartments essentially. There is lots of networking, phone calls and establishing strong relationships with clients.
What do you like to do outside of work, and what have your achievements been to date?
I love spending time with my wife and two daughters. I am also a competitive bodybuilder so the lifestyle takes up a bit of my time.
What appeals to you about bodybuilding, why do you do it?
Not everybody can do it. Not many people have the genetics or discipline for it. We can do what 99% of the population can’t, which is gain muscle and lose body fat at the same time. Last weekend I competed in the IFBB NSW titles (pictured above centre) and won the Masters’ division.
Tell us some stats about the weights you can lift, and what your training schedule looks like?
I don’t focus too much on how much weight I can lift on any given exercise, unlike powerlifting or weightlifting for example. Certainly, most people would think the poundage I lift on most movements is heavy, but the weights are just a tool to stimulate muscle growth, and everything else is all about nutrition and rest.
Typically, I will train in the gym at least five to six days a week early in the morning, with split-sessions in the morning and evening when I’m training for a show. The rest of the day is about getting in at least six quality meals, and lots of calories in to sustain and allow muscle growth.
The best thing you’ve learned in your role at Geocon?
Be prepared for change.
What are your career and personal aspirations?
In the future, I would like to move into a management and training role for a team of salespeople. On a personal level, I will aim to move up into the super-heavy-weights division in late 2019, stepping onstage at over 100kg.
