Geocon People: Project Engineer Patrick Caitcheon
26 April 2018
When did you join Geocon and why?
I joined Geocon in January 2017 because of a lack of opportunity at my previous job. Some of my mentors worked for Geocon, so I saw it as a great opportunity to learn.
What was your role and what does it involve?
I was a Cadet Project Engineer when I joined, and the role involved tendering and construction planning for an upcoming project.
Is your role the same today?
I’ve been promoted to Project Engineer which covers items related to construction management, including procurement, contracts, accessing progress claims, monitoring quantities, forecasting cost and construction planning.
What are some of the things you most like about working for Geocon:
I enjoy the scale and number of the projects the company delivers – some are enormous. I like that everyone takes care of each other like a family, and I especially like Geocon’s Graduate Program, which has afforded me many opportunities.
Funniest thing that’s happened at work?
I can’t disclose that information!
The best thing you’ve learned in your role here?
Learning how to analyse and apply construction methodology to a new project, and how to negotiate pricing and works with subcontractors has been extremely valuable.
What are your career aspirations?
To be a director of a construction company, or own my own business one day.
What do you like to do outside work?
I like to go fishing and camping with my mates.
Would you recommend Geocon to others looking for a good career path?
Of course! It’s a great environment for learning and career progression.
