One of Australia’s largest crawler cranes was used to speed up the demolition of NRMA House on the Midnight site in recent weeks. This impressive piece of equipment measured nine metres long and had 1.5-metre tall tracks and was specifically employed to dismantle the large concrete and steel structure, including several 22-tonne beams.

Now that only rubble remains, Geocon’s construction team is occupied with refining the planning for the excavation phase, which is set to begin early next year.

To ensure everything runs smoothly and safely, the team – now completely set up onsite – has also been finalising the details for the construction phase.

Midnight is set to be the feather in the cap of buzzing Braddon, delivering 236 apartments, a 185-room Abode Hotel and 2600 square metres of commercial space on the corner of Northbourne Avenue and Elouera Street. A contemporary tapestry of public and private spaces within easy reach of the light rail, the project will deliver residents to the doorstep of Canberra’s leading food and entertainment destination, and beyond.
