Building our community
GEOCON is shaping Canberra’s skylines, strengthening town centres and developing leaders of the future.
Over the years we have transitioned from a construction company to a large property developer and investor, helping transform Canberra with our exciting and unique projects.
As we continue to grow, we are always looking to help others by giving something back to our community, supporting a range of local community groups in Canberra across four core areas – health, the arts, sport and education.
Our sponsorships are organised into two categories; philanthropic donations providing immediate short-term support and long-term partnerships that deliver sustainable benefits for the organisation and broader community.1/8
Canberra Hospital Foundation
GEOCON is especially proud of our unique affiliation with the Canberra Hospital Foundation. In conjunction with our Abode Apartment Hotels, a two-bedroom family apartment has been donated at Abode Woden. The room accommodates up to four people for extended stays at no cost, providing some comfort and relief for guests who find themselves in a time of need.2/8

GEOCON is aware and concerned of the prevalence of men’s health issues in the construction industry, including mental health, with research showing that construction workers are at a high risk of experiencing some form of mental illness. That is why GEOCON has chosen to back Menslink, a Canberra charity that provides mentoring and counselling in the community and in local schools to help men young get through tough times.
GEOCON General Manager of Construction Damon Smith said “We believe in the importance of supporting a local charity where the benefits will directly benefit local people, particularly one that might one day make a difference to the lives of our own employees.”5/8
Aspen Island Theatre Co.
GEOCON was delighted to be involved with the local theatre scene by supporting The Slip Lane, the latest production from contemporary Canberra playmakers, the Aspen Island Theatre Company. This original play was a humorous relationship drama and political satire that offers a critique of modern Australia through the eyes of characters living in Canberra’s most northern urban precinct, Gungahlin.
GEOCON General Manager of Development Peter Micalos said “Hearing that the play was set in Gungahlin and focused on communities, we saw a natural fit with our goals of building local town centres that provide public spaces for residents to socialise – with family, friends and each other."6/8
CBR2RIO 2016 Olympic Team Gala Dinner, Gold Sponsor
GEOCON was excited to be the Gold sponsor of the ACT Team Appeal Committee’s primary initiative – the CBR2RIO Gala Dinner. All funds raised went directly to sending the 2016 Australian Olympic Team to Rio – including travel, accommodation, outfitting, sports science and medical support, covering physiotherapy, massage therapy, nutrition, physiology and psychology.
GEOCON General Manager of Construction Damon Smith said "This was a great opportunity to directly sponsor the athletes to reach their goals and fulfill their potential as role models for future generations of Canberrans.”7/8
GEOCON and Abode Hotels recognise how a strong sporting culture can have a positive impact on the community and that’s why we are proud to partner with the Canberra Raiders National Rugby League team. Sport brings together people from all walks of life who share the same passions and interests, while athletes can become great role models and have a positive influence on the lives of their supporters, particularly children.
GEOCON Managing Director Nick Georgalis said “Sport helps build communities and that is something we strive to achieve through our projects. The Raiders are also closely linked with charities we support, which makes us even prouder to work with a team that has similar goals when it comes to giving back to local people.”8/8
